Plain and simple, to get your tax returns done in a timely manner, we need more people and there is a serious shortage of accountants in the United States. “The accounting profession is facing a severe crisis due to a shortage of accountants.” That quote is from the CPA Journal. Here are the facts:

  • There are 340,000 fewer CPAs in the United States than in 2019 (Bloomberg/BLS).
  • 75% of current accountants are near retirement age (AICPA).
  • CPA candidates have dropped 33% since 2016 (AICPA).

It’s a perfect storm of a labor shortage: 340,000 accountants have left the profession in just the past five years, 75% are retiring, and 33% fewer people are entering the field. We simply have not been able to hire enough people locally or inside the United States to keep up with our workloads.

Why not hire CPAs outside of Napa or California?

We already recruit nationally and have done so for many years. Most of our current staff in the U.S. work remotely from outside Napa County, and many work from outside of California. The CPA shortage is a national challenge, not a local one.
